"Shelf board slant addition metal fittings", which can be attached later to the existing bookshelf, made a downslope to a shelf board, prevented the lifting from a sleeve plate, suppressed books from flight from shelf due to seismic motion.

We developed the "Shelf board slant addition metal fittings" to restrain that a book falls from the shelf, for existing bookshelves. We attached these metal fittings to bookshelves and inspected the effectiveness.
We attach the "Shelf board slant addition metal fittings" to slope the shelf board. These metal fittings are attached on the shelf board side inner side. It is attached on the front side of the bookshelf by a strong double-stick tape.
Since the "Shelf board slant addition metal fittings" were attached only to the front side, a shelf board inclines into the rearward. Because it is sloping, the fall of the books can be reduced. It can also be restrained that the shelf board comes off from the sleeve plate.

Purpose and Ideae

This way prevented a shelf board from shifting by the vertical tremble, and it was sloped. For this "Shelf board slant addition metal fittings", which can be attached later to the existing bookshelf, was devised and produced as a test.
The "Shelf board slant addition metal fittings" were equipped to the shelf board of the existing single pillar bookshelf. This made a slope of about 3 degrees to a shelf board and suppressed the lifting from a sleeve plate.
The structure of bookshelves is affected by the earthquake motion characteristic (amplitude, temporality, cycle), the direction of a tremor, and the position to place books on the shelf. Even if the same level as the Great East Japan Earthquake happened and pressure were added to a part of the shelf, the "Shelf board slant addition metal fitting" itself would be transformed and help minimizing the influence on a shelf board and a sleeve plate. By this way, the bookshelf could be protected.
